75167092Hi Friends & Stargazers,

I hope you all are well! I know that I have been gone for a while. If some of you surmised that I had been kidnapped and taken to the moon (or Venus for a romantic holiday) this would not be too far off the point. But actually I have been slightly closer to home and working on some other exciting projects. I did miss you all terribly though so a resurrection- and possibly a little makeover- of the site are in the stars. Good things are on the way.. for all of us!!

Love,

Aurora

youniverse_by_andycapI myself am well into my 20s, as are most of my close friends and confidantes. Like any time in ones life, the present, naturally, seems to assume the utmost importance. And just like when we were in our teens, and thought nobody could possibly understand us (and likely they didn’t), the 20s come with their own set of emotional trials and tribulations. These come in three distinct waves, astrologically speaking.

The Saturn return that takes place around ages 28/29 has garnered the most recognition in the collective consciousness. Like Mercury retrograde it seems to have the highest number of non-astrological pros murmuring about it’s significance. This would of course be characteristic of it’s namesake planet, Saturn, who garners, indeed demands, a great deal of serious consideration and respect. However, the earlier two astrologically significant events one encounters in their 20s are equally interesting and significant.

Around age 24, adults enjoy their second Jupiter return. The planet Jupiter takes roughly 12 years to make a full circle of the zodiac. This means that for every person, when they are about 12 years old, and then again at 24 (yet again at 36, 48, etc), transiting Jupiter returns to the same degree in the sky that it was at when you were born.

Jupiter is the planet of luck, abundance, extravagance, faith, optimism, education, journeys, teaching, publishing, broadcasting, gambling and speculation. This is interesting because at this juncture in many a young persons life they are taking, in many ways, the biggest gamble of their lives- deciding which career path they want to follow. This is a tidy follow up to ones first Jupiter return at age 12, when we are well enough along in our development to have established certain academic, as well as social, preferences. Like happy-go-lucky Jupiter, adults at age 24 set off with the highest of hopes, an innate faith and optimism about their chosen field and the future abundance of their life. Jupiter also represents opportunities and now is the time when we feel like the world is an open and exciting place for us. And much to the amusement of everybody else, the extravagance of those in their early 20s is often well broadcast for all to see! This is understandably a high point in many peoples life.

At age 27/28 we encounter the next interesting astrological event. The progressed moon returns to the sign and degree it was at the time our birth. Progressions are different from transits. The transit moon, with it’s rapid 28 day orbit of the zodiac, passes over our natal moon once each month. This is called the lunar return and many astrologers looks at it for information about the coming months emotional character. It takes at least 27 years, however, for the moon to make one full rotation in the progressed chart which shows the internal progress and changes we are experiencing in our lives. So while both the Jupiter and Saturn returns are transits, which affect us in a more public, exterior way, through circumstances and situations which reinforce its themes, the progressed lunar return is a much more subtle, private time of reassessment and reflection.

Again this suits the nature of the mysterious, private, nurturing, loving, giving, tender, moody moon quite well. During our progressed lunar return we really get in touch with our emotional nature. With the progressed moon in our natal moon sign for a little over 2 years, all of the emotional baggage and patterns that we have been carrying around with us seem to be put under the spotlight. For many this is a time when we are getting more serious about our relationships, even considering marriage. For those who have already married, it is a time when their own notions of love, caring and support are tested. We start to understand what we really need and want from a parter and how we tend to nurture other people, as well as ourselves.

These realizations, often discovered at a difficult price, will prove invaluable as we tread through the next astrological era at age 28/29, the Saturn return. Saturn takes roughly 29 years to make one full circles of the zodiac and it’s return to our place of birth at this time in our lives in crucial. We have had some opportunities (Jupiter) and have worked through some emotional baggage (moon) up to this point and it is now our task to turn a practical, disciplined eye to the issues of responsibility, reputation and commitment in our lives.

Saturn urges caution, realism and hard work. If one has been living in tune with these values, honing their craft with effort and integrity, Saturn can be a most generous and rewarding master, having the sole ability of the planets to manifest in material ways, all of our hopes and dreams. If ones path has been more meandering and less conscientious, Saturn provides a firm, but fair, reminder that there are rules in the game and they must be followed in order to achieve success. Saturn does not care, per se, what game you are playing, but rather that you are playing it with honor, integrity, and even love. While love is not a word much associated with Saturn, it should be! Saturn does not want you to be doing some ‘practical’ job that you hate. There is nothing practical, really, about that. Saturn wants you to do what you love, in a practical, responsible way. In fact, when you love what you do, Saturn only strengthens and reinforces your ability to do it well. And any good astrologer will tell you how vitally important Saturn is to a love relationship. It adds responsibility, durability, commitment and strength. Marriage, after all, is more than candles and bubble baths!

So while many find their patience, and their bank accounts, to be at a frustrating low during their Saturn returns, others find large bonuses and wedding rings in this melee. And even if your Saturn return is difficult (and parts of it are for almost everyone), that does not mean that you did something ‘wrong’ up to this point and don’t deserve to be rewarded, but rather that there may be something even better out there for you… something that will get you even closer to the material manifestation of your goals. So while it is important to be sensible during the Saturn return, it is also essential to remain flexible and open-minded; solutions will present themselves.

Each of these returns represents the tying up of loose ends as well as the beginning of a new era. For this reason they are high energy periods than can be experiences as both trying and cathartic. With the Jupiter return (24), we are celebrating the completion (for most people) of formal education and fostering optimism about the future. With the progressed lunar return (27), we are processing the conscious and subconscious emotional patterns we have been enacting in our lives, and making necessary adjustments. This is just in time for our new, hopefully more mature, emotional nature to guide us through our Saturn return (29); the time of assessing our progress and our short-comings, reaping our material rewards, and getting practical about our future.

But the good news is, that once all of this hard work is out of the way, we can really boogie down and enjoy our 30s! With no seriously daunting transits or progressions coming through.. this is the real time to enjoy the life we have chosen, climaxing in the 3rd Jupiter return at age 36. So while the 20s might not be the breeze that every angsty teenager imagines them to be, they hold the keys to a lot of important self- healing that can ensure that the rest of your early adult life is as satisfying as possible!

alyson_hannigan300

Add Aries Alyson Hannigan to the ranks of those who have given birth on their birthday! She celebrated her 35th birthday on March 24th by delivering her first child, daughter Satyana. According to some sources as many as 5% of newborns share their birthdays with their  mothers. When you consider that there are 365 days in a year this becomes quite a mind-boggling statistical anomaly! While astrologers (or anybody else) would certainly not be able to tell you HOW this happens, we can definitely explain why this bond is so strong.

People born on the same day (or sometimes within one day) of one another, even in different years, share the same degree of birth. Alyson and her daughter were both born at 3 degrees Aries. So when planets make an aspect to 3 degrees Aries (like Pluto over there at 3 degrees Capricorn) it affects both of them very similarly. So from the moons cycles every month, to the longer outer planet transits, both people experience the ebbs and flows of this energy together. So the bond between mothers and children born on the same day is generally a very strong one.

I have also noticed a lot of mothers giving birth to children whose natal sun is conjunct their progressed sun. For example, when Scorpio Julia Roberts gave birth to her twins on November 28, 2004, they were born at 6 degrees Sagittarius, within several degrees of Roberts progressed sun at 11 degrees Sagittarius. Capricorn Amanda Peet’s progressed sun was at 26 degrees Aquarius when she gave birth to her daughter, Frankie, who was born at 0 degrees Pisces. These conjuncts are not exact but they are still very close and while to the naked eye they are not as significant as sharing the same actual birth date as a parent, astrologically they are very similar in that they strengthen emotional bonds because passing transits affect them both very closely.

pisces-1

Dear Pisces,

Well it has been an interesting few years hasn’t it, dear Pisces? You have kind of been going through the ringer with obstacles over here, indecision over there, and a prevailing wind of chaos in your life. Just when you may be ready to throw up your hands and (mistakenly) accept that this is your lot in life.. I come with good news!

First of all, this is not your lot in life. It has been a very stressful drawn out opposition between rebellious Uranus in your sign and stern Saturn opposite your sign in Virgo doling out the ‘big life lessons’. But it is finally wrapping up and will be moving on to ‘bless’ those in the next pair of opposite signs- Aries & Libra- with its wisdom soon enough. Especially for those of you born at the beginning of Pisces, break out the champagne because the drama is all but over. Those of you born closer to the end, there will still be some more of the same but you will be feeling a WHOLE lot better as you confront it. You are practically a pro by now.

Secondly, you have a year ahead so stellar in aspects that even those bossy Leos would be jealous. In fact, your new moon this year falls in the house presided over by that most self-confident of signs, Leo, the 5th house- which also has rulership over love affairs, fun, personal creative pursuits, romance, parties, games and children. YAY! You are a deeply creative person, Pisces, and part of your struggle recently has been how to make that fit with the greater career world and sometimes it felt like jamming a square peg into a round hole. This year, you will discover with no small amount of delight, that by simply doing your own thing and paying absolutely no heed (or almost no heed) to what anyone else thinks or wants you will not only be a wellspring of creative momentum, but also that others will practically be falling all over themselves to help you.

You are aided in this by Libra on your ascendant this year, making you beautiful, sociable and pleasant to be around. Your social life is all but destined to be kicked up a notch this year and you will meet plenty of interesting new people. Venus in Aries, in your 7th house of relationships (the house ruled by Libra) is also another strong indicator that while you are feeling as confident and self-directed as ever (5th house sun and moon) you are easily able to balance this with your desire for harmony in your personal relationships. It seems partnerships will in fact be important in helping you with your goals, but these partnerships and relationships will come to you, you will not have to struggle and seek them out.

Powerful Pluto in your 3rd house of communication indicates a time when you are truly becoming aware of your personal perspective. In fact, combined with the strong Leo influence, that could really be described as the big story for you this year. As a Pisces you see beauty and inspiration in so many things that at times it has been difficult for you to distill your unique vision. This year, you will not only be able to put your finger on the pulse of it.. but to share this with others clearly and to find the right home and audience for your talents.

Home is another interesting word this year. You will certainly find a “home” for your work and perspective. The conjunction of Mars, Mercury and Jupiter in Aquarius straddles your 4th and 5th house cusps- the 4th house being the house of home and family. Cancer- the sign associated with the 4th house- is also ruling your career sector. The truth is that this is actually a rather private time for you. All of your planets this year, save Venus and Saturn, fall below the horizon indicating an emphasis on yourself, so while you will be finding your place in the grander scheme of things- that will almost be incidental. Focus on yourself now, which for you ever generous, ever sympathetic Pisces is quite a more difficult prescription than it seems! Don’t let the exciting sociable Libra aspects suck you in too deeply, balance them with some time spent reflectively and play your career cards rather close to the vest, even though exciting things are happening.

You may have already guessed it but with Libra on the ascendant, the sun and moon in the 5th house of romance and true love, and sexy Venus in the 7th house of partnerships… Love is in the air. If this is an area of life that has been suffering the turbulence of the Saturn/Uranus opposition, then you may have a fresh breath of air to look forward to here. Venus in Aries is feisty and changeable though so while it will probably not be all be poetry and candles on the beach it is sure to be an exciting adventure.  It could be an Aries, Aquarius, Libra or Leo who catches your eye (or some of each!). If you are committed already, the 5th house emphasis could bring out some discussions about expanding the family or even a visit from the stork.

Of course no Pisces discussion would be complete without paying a wee bit of attention to the troublesome Uranus/Saturn opposition which this year falls in your 6th (Uranus) and 12th (Saturn) houses. Saturn in the 12th is reminding you to integrate fully all of the things that you have been learning throughout the past few years and when used constructively can help you with all of that articulation of your vision that we have been discussing. Uranus in the 6th is helping you pay better attention to your health (again, part of the whole taking care of yourself thing). You may have some surprises in that area this year but just take them as a sign to find a routine that you are truly able to maintain.

So bottom line.. enough with the bleeding heart BS Pisces!! Now is the time for you and don’t let anyone or anything sway you from taking care of yourself and tending to your goals. You will be more clear than ever about what those goals are and people will notice. So keep doing your thing, make sure your home life and relationships {personal and professional} are happy and harmonious, and embrace a time of personal creative satisfaction and fun.

LUCKIEST MONTHS:

February 26, 2009 Santa Monica, CA 5:50 PM

Last week the two most beautiful people on the planet were married (sorry Brad and Angie but it’s true). Obviously we want to know all about what their marriage will be like, and we can find out!

The sun was in Pisces, indicating that their relationship and marriage is driven by a very romantic, intuitive, karmic kind of bond. This is not a nuts and bolts business-y kind of marriage. In fact they both will probably shy away from being in charge of handling that logistical part of their life together. Pisces is also a very moody and unpredictable sign so as a couple they will tend take off and disappear and leave everyone confused from time to time.

The moon sign for their marriage is Aries. Very impulsive and action oriented. Again, as a couple they will act swiftly on their instincts and move ahead regardless of what other people or obstacles might be in the way. They don’t want to be bound by other peoples restrictions. This Pisces/Aries combo is interesting because it mirrors the Water and Fire of their sun signs. Tom is an aggressive Leo, while Gisele is an emotional Cancer. Their Leo/Cancer personalities fit well with their Pisces/Aries marriage.

On the more tricky side, the Saturn/Uranus opposition that is happening right now falls into their sensitive 1st/7th house axis. While they may just want to gaze at each other in Lala-land forever (Pisces), with Virgo on the ascendant and Saturn in the 1st house, they will have to spend more time dealing with responsibility and details and planning more than they would want to. This will be especially annoying because of crazy Uranus in the 7th house of others representing all the  people who want a piece of them. Practicality and details are again reinforced by their Pisces sun and the massive Aquarius stellium (Mars, Jupiter, Neptune, Chiron, Mercury) all in their 6th house of health and routine. This is the downside of being a jetsetter.

This will most certainly stress their marriage. And with the moon in hot-headed Aries in a nearly exact square (within one degree) with dark Pluto in Capricorn.. they may not handle annoyance and changes of plan so gracefully. While Aries blows up and gets over things quickly, Pluto holds on to emotional wounds and plots revenge. Eek. Overall though, the masculine and feminine seem well balanced in this chart, and it is clearly the chart of a relationship of people who want to do things their own way- the Tom and Gisele way… if only we could all be so lucky.

UPDATE: According to a different media outlet, the ceremony began around 6:10 and the marriage was official at 6:30. The difference between 5:50 and 6:30 PM is an important one. This would shift some of the planets in the Aquarius stellium {Mars, Mercury and Jupiter to be exact} into their 5th house of love, fun, romance and children. This is *much* better than having all those lucky planets in the fussy 6th house. But the above analysis still stands, especially as the tough Uranus/Saturn opposition on their ASC/DSC line is even more pronounced and troublesome. But at least they will have lots more fun and lots more gorgeous babies, as maternal Cancer Gisele has always stated was her desire!

Let this be a reminder to all of you future brides and grooms out there.. Check with an astrologer when you are planning your wedding!! Really, it is quite silly to have five meetings to discuss potential cocktail napkins and none to discuss the eternal stamp of the stars on your union. Don’t you agree? After all, western culture is the only culture in the world who pays no need astrology when planning marriages and we have the highest divorce rates.. Hmm..

Inspired by my SAG Awards segment, Glamour.com asked me to keep my eyes open for astro-fashion trends on the red carpet at last night’s Academy Awards. Thankfully the show was quite entertaining (Ben Stiller as Joaquin Phoenix.. priceless!) and the red carpet was anything but boring with enough tulle, crystals and sequins to make a Texas prom queen proud. And the astrological trends were, of course, in full effect.

In life and on the red carpet, opposite signs are really like two sides of the same coin. They are signs that have the same basic concerns and orientation to life but approach them from two different points of view. Last night they presented a united front.

ARIES & LIBRA

Some of the biggest statement dresses of the evening came from Libras Kate Winslet, Marion Cotillard and Freida Pinto, and Aries Reese Witherspoon. The Aries/Libra personality is always striving for a balance between independence and harmony, and with their plays on symmetry and color contrast their fashions last night were a quite literal reflection of this.

TAURUS & SCORPIO

There is nothing childish about stubborn, intense Scorpio and Taurus women. They love and live fully and when they decide to DO something.. like rock the red carpet.. they really DO it. Things that don’t look natural repel them so they usually pick black or neutral (and Taureans occasionally reveal their soft spot for pastels and florals) but last night they all decided to go for intricate, expensive, ornate gold and cream. Scorpios Leslie Mann and Anne Hathaway and Taureans Penelope Cruz and Tina Fey showed the diva side of this duo.

GEMINI & SAGITTARIUS

Adventurous Geminis and Sagittarians are happy just about anywhere as long as they can have fun play by their own rules. Fussy, stuffy and boring are not for them so they prefer looks that have a little bit of personality and some fun flourishes. Geminis Heidi Klum, Angelina Jolie and Natalie Portman had some of the most memorable color of the night- Heidi’s bright red, Natalies gorgeous pink and Angie’s eye-popping emeralds. And Sagittarius Marisa Tomei’s ornate silvery gown put the nights other pale gowns to shame.

CANCER & CAPRICORN

With the exception of Cancer Meryl Streep, it appears that the Academy does not like Cancers or Capricorns. No memorable red carpet appearances this year. Interesting.

LEO & AQUARIUS

Strong-willed Leos and Aquarians have very big personalities, of the love them or hate them variety. The same could be said of their always unique take on personal fashion. Truly only a Leo like Amy Adams could pull off such a bold statement necklace with an equally over the top dress. Aquarians Jennifer Aniston and Alicia Keys also rocked unusual strapless dresses that would not flatter or appeal to most people but these are women who are not interested in blending in with the crowd.

VIRGO & PISCES

The play between structure and romantic whimsy rules the lives of Virgo and Pisces women. And it is certainly the structure of Pisces Jessica Biel’s and Virgo Beyonce’s dresses that catches your attention. Biel does better in the romance factor but they both look terribly uncomfortable.

WINNERS: Scorpio & Taurus. RUNNERS UP: Gemini & Sagittarius. Honorable mention to Libra goddess Marion Cotillard.

aquarius-i-c10206238_2

Dear Aquarius,

You may be one of the most misunderstood, if not the most misunderstood sign in the zodiac, but that has probably never really bothered you too much. You are quite content to smile and nod your head as descriptions of the loosey-goosey new age of Aquarius hocus pocus flies around you, all the while keeping the well oiled machinery of your grand master plan working below the surface. You are in fact one of the hardest working, most determined and most consistent signs in the zodiac. So what if your tastes and ambitions are a little bit off the beaten path? Through trial and error you have learned what they are and little can keep you from achieving them.

In previous years you may have faced tiresome, daunting obstacles in your way. However, this year will be characterized by the smooth flow of all that you have been working for.. right into your lap. The new moon in Aquarius this year holds the sun and moon in tight conjunction with Jupiter, the planet of good luck and optimism, in your 2nd house of personal finance. Ka-ching. And extravagant Sagittarius, Juptier’s favorite sign, is on your ascendant highlighting this theme even more. But as always, when things come too easily, one can get sloppy so a good lesson to remember for this year is “Be careful what you wish for” because it just might show up.

Joining the sun, moon and Jupiter in the 2nd house are Mars and Mercury retrograde in Capricorn. You will certainly be consolidating in your efforts towards building or creating something, as the 2nd house has rulership over artistic projects.. but guard against stubborn aggressive behavior, especially as it relates to winning people over to helping you. Mercury retrograde will be giving them mixed signals.

In your personal relationships this also seems to be an interesting year. Venus, planet of love and beauty, is conjunct wildcard Uranus in Pisces on the cusp of the 4th house of home and family. This could spell any number of scenarios. Aquarius is ruled by Uranus so you have a knack for understanding the positive side of this unpredictable planet and it’s appearance in conjunction with Venus could signal a major love event in your life this year; a commitment, marriage, child or a shared new home. However, this would only be if your relationship can overcome all of the obstacles and reassessments that pragmatic Saturn will been throwing in the way.

You especially will have to take an unflinching look at what is working and what isn’t in your career and make any adjustments. Any issues of how to balance career and family life will be at the center of this conversation.  If that stubborn streak comes out and you don’t want to hear it, then the bad side of this Venus/Uranus aspect could emerge and your entire home/relationship/career world could get tossed into a little tailspin. This is worst case scenario and to make sure that it doesn’t happen, remember to be a good listener.  If you are single, expect to meet somebody new, especially in any type of work related situation or anyone who could have access to your home if you are hosting events or doing renovations. Stay focused but remain flexible and this year is sure to be a truly magical one for you.

LUCKIEST MONTHS:

MARCH 2009: Love is in the air so you will probably feel like ordering a case of champagne and camping out on the homefront for a while. Just be sure to honor any pre-existing career commitments or you could be in hot water.

JUNE 2009: Both work and personal relationships will flourish right now. You will certainly be very busy and sociable, so take in all the new information before making any final decisions.

SEPTEMBER 2009: This is a big work month for you when things will become more clear. Projects will either move forward to get tossed and you should be ready for some turmoil. Know what your values are and what you are willing to put up with.

kanyewest-300
alanismorissette

Ok, so Kanye West and Alanis Morrissette are not really in love.. or at least not with each other.. or at least not as far as I know. But I am kind of in love with both of them right now and these two musicians are very astrologically similar.

Both Kanye and Alanis are Geminis, the great communicators of the zodiac. They need to express themselves all the time and many Geminis are talented writers. Clearly, both Kanye and Alanis fall into this category. And while the sun sign shows ones basic orientation to the world (communicator), the moon sign shows ones emotional nature and both of these artists have intense Water sign moons. Kanye’s moon sign is the intuitive, romantic Pisces while Alanis’s moon sign is the passtionate, probing Scorpio.

This combination of Air sun sign and Water moon sign, makes for people who feel passionately and strongly about their relationships and experiences and also have the need to integrate and communicate the lessons they have learned in a thoughtful, rational way.

And this is what their music is all about. They are completely open, honest and often brutal, in their observations of themselves and the world. And both artists are famous for their heartfelt love and breakup songs. They express the vulnerability, passion, rawness, anger, desire, hurt, disappointment, betrayal, angst and sorrow that everyone has experienced as meaningful relationships come and go from their life. Bringing these emotions to the surface in an articulate way is a true gift of the Air/Water personality.

Sexy Aries 2009

mandymoore_21On February 2nd, the sexy, sultry goddess of a planet Venus slid into Aries. While Venus usually makes her rounds through the zodiac quickly, rarely gracing one sign with her presence for more than a month, she has decided that 2009 would be a great time to shower Aries with her affection and she will be residing in this feisty, hot-blooded sign through early June. With Venus having rulership over our love nature, and being especially important in the charts of women, we should all get ready for what is sure to be an exciting adventure.

While Venus usually likes to express herself in subtle, graceful ways (through her favorite signs Taurus and Libra) in Aries her more aggressive, determined side comes out. Anyone who knows a female Aries can tell you that this woman wants what she wants and usually gets it- NOW. Especially in the love department. These are the women who confound their boyfriends with their disarmingly un-mushy behavior, and often suffer from a decidedly low attention span with their helpless male suitors.

All women will be feeling this Aries tingle in their love lives for the next several months. Perhaps this has something to do with the strange shift in sexual power dynamics that is happening as a result of our unfortunate economic climate. Women are no longer conniving their way into the good graces of the macho providers of the good old stock market bubble days, but rather have morphed into ambiguously patient partners coaxing their nervous lovers through troubled times while also recognizing the obvious opportunity to demand that more of their own needs get met.

Aries themselves, both male and female, will of course be feeling this energy the most intensely. Just in the past week it has been announced that two Aries Hollywood beauties, Claire Danes and Mandy Moore, both with an impressive checklist of attractive ex-boyfriends (all Aries women do), have gotten engaged. Expect more of this in the months to come.

If you are a single Aries, get thee out of the house and to some parties because you will be a shining, sexy magnet for the next 4 months. If you are an Aries who is madly in love, these could be some of the best months of your life. If you are an Aries who is attached but unhappy, get unattached fast so you can cash in on this action.

To a slightly lesser extent, this energy will be affecting Libra, the opposite sign of Aries. Because Aries falls in Libra’s partnership sector in the zodiac, the love lives of Libras will be decidedly more dramatic than usual. This could either titillate or terrify the aloof Libras who are quite disarmed by such assertive, determined and seemingly reckless behavior showing up in their personal lives. Relax, Libra, you will almost certainly enjoy it!

Just remember though, Venus in Aries will be retrograde through most of March, which adds an even more chaotic and unpredictable aura to this already impulsive energy. Best to avoid getting down on bended knee this month. Also, if you are feeling the makeover itch, which Venus in Aries also inspires, don’t do anything too dramatic in March.. it will most certainly not turn out quite as you had hoped.

But everyone should enjoy Venus in Aries! And women take note: Ask for what you want. Or just demand it.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
